BMW M celebrates 50 years and crowns the anniversary year by presenting the BMW M4 CSL based on BMW M GmbH's successful high-performance models in the middle class. The new BMW M4 CSL mixes traditional racing passion with innovative technology. The car's unique character is based on two distinctive features: a power increase of 40 horsepower compared to the BMW M4 Competition (to 550 hp) and a weight loss of as much as 100 kilos.

The BMW M4 CSL is created for racing, with the next level of engine power and intelligent, lightweight design together with model-specific chassis upgrade and extra equipment specially developed for this purpose. Several of the car's outstanding attributes can be traced to the competition-equipped sibling BMW M4 GT3. Thanks to the increased power, lower weight, and better grip, the BMW M4 CSL generates impressive accelerations. The BMW M4 CSL makes the sprint from 0 to 100 in 3.7 seconds and 0 to 200 km / h in 10.7 seconds. The top speed first stops at 307 km / h, which makes the BMW M4 CSL the fastest series-produced BMW M ever.

The letters CSL stand for Competition, Sport, Lightweight - a reference to the weight loss design crucial for motorsport success. In the 70s, the same principles were the basis for the development of the BMW 3.0 CSL, which won the European Touring Car Championship on the first attempt in 1973. The new BMW M4 CSL follows in the footsteps of several other prominent unique models over the years, including the legendary BMW M3 CSL from 2003.

With its innovative power and broad knowledge of racing, BMW M GmbH managed to limit the weight to 1,625 kg. This gives a power-to-weight ratio of 2.95 kg per horsepower, an optimal starting point for a dynamic driving experience.

By changing the standard seats to sports seats (M Carbon full bucket seat), the weight was reduced by about 24 kg. An additional 21 kg was saved by removing the rear seats and seat belts. Changes to the chassis, such as extra lightweight M Carbon ceramic brakes as well as special lightweight rims and springs, also reduced that weight by 21 kg. Furthermore, 15 kg was saved by switching to ultralight sound insulation and at the same time reducing its size. About 11 kg was reduced through several components in carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). In addition to the roof, the hood, boot lid, and center console are made of this high-tech lightweight material. Finally, the rear titanium muffler removes four kg of weight from the exhaust system.

The premiere of the new BMW M4 CSL is one of the highlights of the anniversary year for BMW M GmbH. Series production will start in July at the BMW factory in Dingolfing with a limited edition of 1,000 copies.

Standard exterior paint in the BMW M4 CSL is exclusive Frozen Brooklyn Gray metallic. This color is complemented by exposed carbon fiber surfaces and red accents, creating an expressive and sporty look. Alternatively, customers can choose from Alpine White or Sapphire Black metallic colors.

As an option, there are BMW Laserlight headlights, which add an extra eye-catching effect. Both in the welcome impact when the doors are unlocked and when the low beam and high beam are switched on, they glow in yellow rather than white, bringing prominent GT racing cars to mind.

The engine is based on the same straight, high-speed, six-cylinder engine as the M TwinPower Turbo found in the race car BMW M4 GT3. The extra power comes from increasing the maximum charging pressure for the two turbochargers from 1.7 bar to 2.1 bar, together with model-specific engine adjustments.

The BMW M4 CSL has a maximum torque of 650 Nm between 2,750 and 5,950 rpm. Its total power of 550 hp is achieved at 6,250 rpm. The racing-adapted design of the 3.0-liter engine is wholly focused on high speeds and maximum power generation. The torque is delivered via an eight-speed M Steptronic gearbox to the rear wheels. The BMW M4 CSL has a maximum top speed of 307 km / h.

The dual exhaust system with electrically operated flaps and weight-minimized titanium rear muffler generates a race car-inspired, moving sound image created especially for the new BMW M4 CSL.

The model-specific wheel suspension provides a reduced height of eight millimeters compared to the BMW M4 Competition Coupé. The standard M Traction Control function allows the operator to set the anti-spin system in 10 different steps manually.

As standard, forged M alloy wheels are included in the exclusive cross-spoke design (19 inches on the front axle and 20 inches on the rear). In addition, these are equipped with high-performance tires specially developed for the model in sizes 275/35 ZR19 (front) and 285/30 ZR20 (rear).
